The Supligen JCA Power Play Cricket Championship, the first of its kind, takes strike today and tomorrow at the Boscobel Community Centre with the right selected teams from St Mary vying for championship honours.

The Championship starts at 9:30 am each day with West Indies ace fast bowler, Ambassador Courtney Walsh conducting a clinic for youngsters between the ages of 15 and 25 at 8:00 am. The concept of this novel 10-over affair, the first time anywhere as a championship of its own, is to revitalise the sport as it once were in clubs and communities and then to support this weekend festival with the Courtney Walsh clinic for 25 youngsters on the opening day of each of these fixtures in an effort to unearth talent in the proverbial 'every nook and corner'.

Teams participating in St Mary are Port Maria, Boscobel, Rose End, Epson, Wood Park, Are 2 Police Sports Club, Jacks River and Three Hills. Match winners on the first day will return the following day to play the semi-finals, third place play off and the final.

Teams have been drawn from St Mary, St Elizabeth, Portmore in St Catherine and Westmoreland, and all parish finalists will meet in the final weekend of play with the winners of the championship receiving $100,000, and the runners up $50,000.

Other festivities throughout each day's play include domino, fitness challenge for men and women, arm wrestling for men and women, hit it for six (spectator challenged to hit three deliveries for six), 'bowl dem' (spectator challenged to hit wicket from three deliveries), 'bat up an ketch (spectator challenged to have successful catches from three deliveries) and 'butter fingers' (spectator fielding competition).
