FSU outclass Jamaica Select in basketball pre-season series

Friday, August 18, 2017

FLORIDA State University (FSU) registered a convincing 107-51 win over a Jamaica Select team in their second game of a two-match preseason basketball series at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Wednesday night.

In the first game on Monday, FSU had beaten the Minto 79ers coached by Michael Minto 166-78.

Winning head coach of the FSU team, Leonard Hamilton, said he would be exploring the possibilities of making the series an annual event as it serves as worthy preparation for the upcoming NCAA basketball season. He said the recent series has also allowed him to see Jamaica's talent close up and recruitment could be on the cards.

“We would like to make this preseason training an annual one for the players, and also we will be looking for some talented Jamaicans to give scholarships. I have seen a few talented ones,” Hamilton said.

Meanwhile, losing coach of Jamaica Select, Rohan Robinson, lamented his team's performance.

“They lacked the quickness and fast breaks when having possession of the ball... we were not properly prepared for the game due to the short notice and time getting our local players to train and it showed in in performance,” he noted.
