ST HUGH'S and St Catherine High maintained their unbeaten records in the ISSA/Digicel Urban Area Schoolgirl Senior Netball League at the Leila Robinson Courts on Thursday.
The George Pryce-coached St Hugh's aggregation registered a convincing 49-11 win over Spanish Town High, through good shooting from Jamaila Maitland, Adean Thomas and Sacha-Lee Harris.
A former many-time champion, St Hugh's had their opponents beaten from the first quarter as they led 13-2, and at half-time held a commanding 25-4 lead.
St Hugh's gave their opponents little scoring opportunities as their defence intercepted and defended well, along with good man-marking that gave their opponents little passing space as they increased their lead to 38-8 at the third quarter before convincingly winning, 49-11.
St Catherine also came out easy winners. After an early first-half tussle, the Phyliss Thompson-coached girls led 7-4 and by half-time were up, 13-9. A further nine buckets were scored by Anastasia Coleman and Tashsana in the third quarter to move them to 22-14. It was easy going for the winners, who outscored their opponents to win handsomely, 33-18.
Defending champions St Andrew High, through shooters Tiffany Clarke and Jamielle Green, rushed past Camperdown, 48-28, to maintain their unbeaten streak, while the defeat was the first for the Wayne Stewart-coached East Kingston team.
The Jennifer Brown-guided St Andrew led in all four quarters, 12-8, 25-16, 34-25, before finishing the match at 48-28.
Former champions The Queen's, conditioned by Kerry Smith, returned to winning ways by whipping the Phillip Williams-coached Bridgeport High, 40-17, led by shooters Ramona Haughton and Khadijah Williams. They led 10-5, 16-12 and 28-13.
In other Senior League results, Charlie Smith High defeated Greater Portmore, 43-13, after leading 22-6 at half-time. Shooters Tasheka Reid and Kamoy Williams combined well in the third and fourth quarters to carry Charlie Smith to a convincing 43-13 win.
In the Junior League, defending champions St Hugh's, through shooters Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Janelle Jones, went on a scoring-spree to whip St Andrew, 43-13 after leading 22-4 at half-time.
The Queen's maintained their unbeaten run in the Juniors with a crushing 50-13 result over Bridgeport. The winners, coached by Kerry Smith, led 22-6 at the interval, with shooters Simone Gordon and Shanae Warren combining well for The Queen's.
The Junior and Senior League competitions continue next Wednesday at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 2:00 pm.
