Of the original list of 32 potential starters for the 79th running of the Governor’s Cup over 10 furlongs (2000 metres) on Saturday next (May 25), only 13 have survived.

Leading trainer Anthony Nunes seems to have decided to start his 2000 Guineas winner, Supreme Soul in the race known popularly among turfites as the “Poor Man’s” Derby.

Supreme Soul, if he is nominated today, is going to be allowing lots of weight all round to his fellow colleague three-year-olds.

The Nunes camp is well represented as apart from Supreme Soul, he has Earn Your Stripes, Tricky One and Princess Ava. Among the other nine provisionally entered, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta has his Oaks’ winner Princess Annie and Lady Blue.

A notable absentee is Toona Ciliata who also hails from the Nunes Stables.
