Another Vigorous returns for Classic season

…as My Elle Belle gets another chance, Super Sparkle set to run well

Friday, February 09, 2018

With no top-class race on offer tomorrow when a 10-race card at Caymanas will unfold, interest for sure will be placed on the return to competitive racing of three-year-old Another Vigorous.

The Rowan Mathie-trained Another Vigorous faces six other starters in a three-year-old and up non-winners of two event going five and a half furlongs or 1,100 metres.

The Supreme Racing Guide examines the chances of the seven runners in this race in post-position order.

MY ELLE BELLE (ch.f. Horse GreeleyFast Actress: USA): Was disqualified at the gates when last entered to race on January 17. This time trainer Spencer Chung has put on the blinkers with the hope that this American-bred filly will settle down. If My Elle Belle behaves and gives of her best she can win this race, but there are doubts which must be dispelled before she enters her starting stall. Looking for a good effort from this invader.

AZARIA (b.f. Performing Magic Milestone): Azaria has raced one time this year on January 17 when finishing third over 13 lengths behind My Sister and Council of Trent over six furlongs (1,200m). Not expected to do much better here.

DREAMING OF MAGIC (b.f. Western Classic Racee): Since winning on November 1, 2017, Dreaming of Magic has not shown much and this race should add to her experience. Note the tongue tie is on.

SUPER SPARKLE (b.f. Bluegrass CatKarakorum Karen): Word from the railbirds suggest that this Ian Parsard-trained bay filly is of good ability, and with Shane Ellis as the pilot, there must be some optimism in the camp. It is understood that Ellis has been associated with Super Sparkle for a while now in the mornings. Super Sparkle's sire is from the Storm Cat line, while her dam is connected with Real Quiet. Super Sparkle should be watched closely as in her last gallop on Sunday morning she was clocked in 1:00.2 for five furlongs. There is much talk about Super Sparkle, with many expecting a maiden win tomorrow.

ANOTHER VIGOROUS (b.g. Legal ProcessMiss Nickels): Something obviously went wrong with Another Vigorous on November 25, 2017, when he was declared lame prior to race time. Trainer Rowan Mathie has been very careful with this one who was considered one of the promising two-year-olds of last year's. Started to canter in mid-January, Another Vigorous galloped three-furlongs on Sunday, returning a time of 35.0. This suggests that he might not be fully ready to compete against these. Another Vigorous, with this race under his belt plus another, might find his form and his way to the Classics..but is a waiting game. The tongue tie is on.

SO SMOOTH (b.f. Storm Cat Sunshine of My Life): Is is not going to be smooth.

DAD'S LUCK (gr.c. Silent Valor Flight Plan Girl): Cannot handle these.
