Many of the seven horses who participated in the 2017 Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy (Open Allowance — 5 furlongs) have gone on to achieve even greater glory later in their respective racing careers.

Winner Choo Choo Blue, trained by Peter McMaster and ridden Javaniel Patterson, went on in October of 2017, to score a scorching win in the celebrated Gold Cup (seven furlongs). Pundits at the time came to realise the talent and courage of Choo Choo Blue.

The next race target for Choo Choo Blue was the BGLC- sponsored Diamond Mile in December, but unfortunately the American filly developed an injury prior to the race and was never the same. Shortly after the Diamond Mile, Choo Choo Blue was retired to stud.

Second in the BGLC Trophy race (2017) was Another Bullet trained by Patrick “Wacky” Lynch. Another Bullet since that close second on Emancipation Day, has gone on to win many races and has gained the reputation as a tough and consistent campaigner who is still in training and doing well. He ( Another Bullet) is in line to make another try in the BGLC Trophy race of 2018.

Sir Budget officially finished third following the disqualification of Buzz Nightmare, with the latter given the fourth slot. Sir Budget still campaigns at the highest level and may try his luck again in this year's renewal of the BGLC Trophy race.

Buzz Nightmare was always plagued by injuries during his limited time in competition and is now serving at stud.

Probably the best overall of the lot of 2017, based on performances over the last year, was Chace The Great trained by Dwight Chen. Chace The Great finished in fifth position in 2017.

In early November (2017) on the Burger King-sponsored Superstakes race day, Chace The Great crowned himself and his connections in glory when he won the Sprint Championship (six furlongs) to become the leading sprinter in the land.

It was only on Saturday last (July 14) that Chace The Great wrote another significant chapter in his career, when he took home the Reggae Trophy coming down the five-straight course in a fast 58.2 seconds.

Action Man and Jesse's Favourite, sixth and seventh, respectively, have been off the track for a while now.

Who will conquer this year? Find out on Emancipation Day (August 1) when the 2018 Betting Gaming and Lotteries Trophy unfolds.
