Narinesingh moves ahead of Watson in owners' championship

WITH the trainers' and jockeys' championships drawing all the attention, little notice is being taken of the close race in the owners' championship involving new leader Stephan Narinesingh and former front-runner Carlton Watson.

With just six race days left in the 2018 racing season, approximately $412,475 separate Narinesingh from Watson. Narinesingh leads with $20,269,625 with Watson on $19,857,150.

Watson held the lead for the most part of the year until the end of the Diamond Mile on Saturday.

He entered the 14-race programme with stakes earnings of $19,006,800, which was $1,712,825 in front of Narinesingh with $17,293,975.

Watson had one winner on the day, Laguna Point, earning him $552,000.

Narinesingh also had one winner in Kiss Me Quick, who won 12th race from which he pocketed $596,100.

The Trinidadian significantly gained on Watson when his Bigdaddykool finished second in the Diamond Mile earning him $2.2 million.
