TRACK - SLOPPY

RACE 1-RESTRICTED S TAKES (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1100 METRES/5 1/2 FURLONGS

In the absence of expected chief threat My Sugarman, who bolted before the start, Peking Cruz battled for the lead with the speedy but faint-hearted Go Go Girl. Having disposed of Go Go Girl approaching the distance, backers of Peking Cruz had every right to expect him to take full control. However, he did not run particularly well inside the last 150 metres but had enough momentum to deny the good late effort of the American filly My Elle Belle by three parts of a length.

RACE 2-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (4-YEAR-OLDS&UP/NW2) 1700 METRES/8 1/2FURLONGS

Peyton's Delight and Goodbloodbadblood disputed the lead past the 800 - metre mark with Sunshine Cat in pursuit and weakening. The front two, with Peyton's Delight always travelling the better, continued their duel to the distance with Colt Of Arms joining the fray to deliver a short-lived effort. Magical Selecta, going best of the back-markers from 900 metres out, was wisely taken wide to faster ground nearer the stand side, and stayed on strongly to strike the front late for the win. Princess Kavel, third, was very slowly away but from a seemingly hopeless position 400 metres out, closed well on the inner rails and just failed to overhaul runner-up Colt Of Arms.

RACE 3-MAIDEN CONDITION (FOUR-YEAR-OLD&UPWARDS) 1400 METRES/7 FURLONGS

Unexpected led on the bridle chased by A Boy Name Marcus, whose tardy start could hardly have been worse. Given his head at the top of the stretch, Unexpected coasted in for a five-length scoreline with A Boy Name Marcus holding on to second over five lengths clear of the one-paced Prince Malik.

RACE 4-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE II (3YOS&UPWARDS/NW2) 1000 METRES/5 FURLS.STRAIGHT

Apollo Bay, My Super Girl and Atomic Prince were the front-runners for the first 600 metres. Still green, and in spite of the efforts of the rider, My Super Girl kept drifting to the right and eventually got into the path of Apollo Bay costing him valuable ground. From just behind the leaders Hilly's Halo hit the front 100 metres out, but Yaya's Dream produced the better finishing effort to score by just over one length while Breezy Adlih ran on well late against the stand rails for second. Following a Stewards Inquiry, My Super Girl, who finished fourth, had her placings reversed with Apollo Bay who was fifth.

RACE 5-$250-210,000 CLAIMING (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1400METRES/7FURLONGS

Slowly into stride, Concur was hard-ridden to go to the front and was clear with 800 metres to come. Unbreakable went in pursuit but found nothing from the top of the stretch. Burlin mended steadily on the inside and overhauled the tired Concur easily to score by over seven lengths.

RACE 6-$450-400,000 CLAIMING (3YOS&UPWARDS) 1820 METRES/9 FURONGS&25YARDS

Zackontheattack, pursued by Cheers and Newton's First Law, led for 1,300 metres before dropping out tamely. Queen Of Bagdad, Bay Commander and Stir It Up were held up down the backstretch, with the first-mentioned making a sharp move to lead in the final part of the bend. Bay Commander's effort was one-paced at best and it was Stir It Up who turned out to be the best stayer on the day. Queen Of Bagdad simply could not cope with the finishing speed of Stir It Up and was outstayed by just over four lengths, while Bay Commander still secured third comfortably ahead of Cheers.

RACE 7-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (THIRD-YEAR-OLD FILLIES) 1200 METRES/6 FURLONGS

Alexandra led hard-pressed by Madam Secretary in very punishing fractions (22.4 x 45.4) to the top of the stretch, with the latter surrendering 350 metres out. Queen's Highway got by the tired Madam Secretary 100 out but posed no threat to Alexandra, who remained clear to triumph by over three lengths.

RACE 8-$180,000 CLAIMING (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 800 METRES/4 FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Bullet Raj led convincingly although stalked closely by Big Mistake to within 100 metres of the line. Put under serious pressure to last by Big Mistake, Bullet Raj could not find extra to defend his advantage and was bettered by nearly a length. Copperfield and True Whisper, third and fourth respectively, although being close enough at the distance made no impression on the two front-runners.

RACE 9-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE IV (4YOS&UPWARDS/NW3) 1500 METRES/7 1/2 FURLONGS

Deal Marker, up in class, demonstrated real improvement and led comfortably, with Rambunctious Links putting on slight but steady pressure to the top of the stretch. Approaching the bend, the rider on Rambunctious Links went for an opening on the inner rails and the response was immediate. Getting on terms with Deal Marker in the upper stretch a battle ensued to 200 metres out, with Rambunctious Links quickening strides to be well on top at the line. Deal Marker kept on well for second and it should be noted the well-trained Blue Tradition, third and being fresh from a respite, needed the run.

RACE 10-OVERNIGHT ALLOWANCE (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Much-improved Mr Universe, justifiably installed favourite at even money, led convincingly to score by nearly three lengths and looks likely to be a major contender for the big sprint prizes later in the season. Tough, hard-knocking Sarah Lee finished well to snatch second from Lord Equus, with eight-8-year-old Crucial Appeal, always in the front ranks, only half a length away in fourth.
