Queen Of The Harbour produced a last-gasp but devastating stretch run on the outside to land the gambit with a 14-1 upset run in a maiden condition race for native-bred three-year-old fillies named after trainer Fitzroy Glispie to celebrate the birthday of owner/trainer Donovan Plummer at Caymanas Park on Saturday (July 14, 2018).

The filly completed six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) in a time of 1:23.3 after chasing fractions of 23.3, 48.1 and 1:15 flat to claim her maiden win from the her seventh attempt.

Nyoka Classic, the 4/5 favourite who looked the likely winner when picking up the lead at the top of the lane, finished seconds with Miss Linda Wray third at 99/1. So Smooth, ridden by Gary Richards, completed the framed as a 16-1 choice.

“This is a special win because today is my birthday. Queen Of The Harbour was expected to win a little earlier in her career, but she experienced some niggling problems which we sorted out and got it right.

“Looking at future prospects for her; she's just an ordinary horse and could now go on to non-winners of two,” Plummer said.

Compellingly ridden by the improving claiming apprentice Oneil Scott, Queen Of The Harbour, a bay filly by Bridle Crest Delay The Trial by Skip Trial, got the break, but was immediately taken in hand and brought to the back of the field to play the waiting game, while Best Advice and Miss Linda Wray dictated the early fractions joined by Nyoka Classic, who set sail for home entering the home stretch.

After Nyoka Classic joined the front-running party, Queen Of The Harbour gathered momentum to be on the tails of the leaders in mid-pack just before settling down for the drive.

Scott then made a decisive move and found racing room on the rails to go third. With Nyoka Classic, under Anthony Thomas, and Miss Linda Wray battling away along the rails for parity after earlier dismissing Best Advice with Kenyatta Davis, Scott then turned Queen Of The Harbour on the outside to come away for the victory.
