In a superb display, the Richard Azan-trained Money Magnet brushed aside rivals by a length and a quarter to win the $1.3-million Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.

It was a true display of class and talent as the chestnut filly outbattled the sprint champion Chace The Great to the wire, going six and a half furlongs (1,300m).

Ridden by apprentice Dane Dawkins, Money Magnet raced just on the outside of Chace The Great (Anthony Thomas) as the speedy Siempre Bueno (Wesley Henry) skidded off to a six- length lead at the half-mile (800m).

With Siempre Bueno giving up at the furlong (200m) pole, Money Magnet and Chace The Great took over, with the former going on the to win emphatically in the end.

Chace The Great did well to earn second money with Houdini's Magic (Shane Ellis), who was outpaced for most of the way, coming through late for third place. Money Magnet ( Nuclear Wayne- Jazzy Jet) won in a time of 1:18.2.

It was the second winner on the day for Azan as he opened the programme with 1,000 Guineas hopefully Honey Ryda. The three-year-old chestnut filly won the one-mile (1,600m) event by half-length over Nadeshico and Uncle Frank in 1:40.0.

Champion apprentice Anthony Thomas also won aboard Sweet Destiny and El Profesor.
