Saturday, January 06, 2018

The much-anticipated athletics season runs off today with the 25th staging of the Purewater/JC/R Danny Williams Track & Field Development Meet on the grounds of Jamaica College (JC).

The JC meet, dubbed the Meet with a difference, will open the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association's (JAAA) local calendar starting at 8:30 am, with a scheduled end time of 5:30 pm.

The events to be contested on the track are the 100m, 800m, 3,000m (female) and 5,000m (male). There will be 70m, 80m, 100m and 110m hurdle races.

In the field events, athletes will compete in long jump, discus, high jump, shot put and pole vault.

A maximum of four competitors per class per team for each event will be allowed, and all teams are required to wear their regular competition colours.

This JC meet is one of the qualifying meets for the prestigious Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships, set for March 20-24.

The 2018 honoree will be the outstanding football coach Miguel Coley, for his tireless efforts as an outstanding football coach of Jamaica College.

He will be saluted for his contribution to the continued development and success of the JC football programme as well as the national programme.

There will also be a special presentation made to the family of late JC Old Boy and long-serving official/volunteer at this meet, Andrew “Bull” Moss, who died tragically on November 21, 2017.

The Purewater/JC/R Danny Williams Track & Field Development Meet will again be awarding 10 individual trophies to the most outstanding athletes selected by the judges in each class and category.
