All-Stars look to extend basketball win streak

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars will start favourites to win their seventh-straight game in the Western Basketball Association’s iCool/iDrade Elite Basketball League when they take on winless Lucea Flames in the first game of a double-header at Montego Bay Cricket Club, set to start at 6:15pm.

In the second game Holland Saints, on nine points from five games, will seek to cement a place in the top four when they take on Cricket Club Knights who are on seven points, also from five games.

On Saturday, former champions Granville Jaguars pulled to within a point of leaders All-Stars with a 71-63 win over Montego Bay Hoopers, while Muschett Falcons got their second win, beating Inner City Avalanche 57-54.

Levar Rose scored 21 points for Granville Jaguars, who got off to a fast start and cruised to their fifth win as they led by 10 points 26-16 after the first quarter and pushed it up to 14 at half-time where they led 48-34 and were well on their way at the end of the third quarter, leading by 16 points 61-45.

Dave Black scored 17 points for Granville, Leroy Lawrence scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds, while Michael Palmer also grabbed 11 rebounds while scoring eight points.

Dwayne Johns and Omar Bell both scored 13 points for Hoopers and Rayon Gardner scored 11 points.

Falcons overcame a one-point deficit at the end of the third round to pull off a three points win over Avalanche.

Falcons’ Jermaine Allwood led all scorers with 17 points and Karlington Barrett scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds while Fabian Julian scored 14 points and had 21 rebounds for Avalanche, while Jayvon Dorman and Orlan Lamey both scored 11 points.
