LIONEL TOWN, Clarendon -- Bodles FC pulled off a mild upset on Saturday when they outscored second-placed Newlands 3-2 in the St Catherine derby and leapfrogged Monymusk FC into fourth-place, as the second-round of the South Central Confederation Super League ended on the weekend.
With the victory, Bodles increased their tally to 19 points, just two adrift of Newlands and two clear of Monymusk.
Elsewhere, Newlands blanked Original Hazard 2-0, while at the Monymusk Sports Club, a 71st-minute strike from Desharn Brown gave Downs FC a hard-fought 1-0 win over Monymusk.
The Meadows/Woodhall, Leeds/Naggo Head and Hillstars/Tafari Lions games were not played.
At Monymusk, Downs were pushed on the back-foot from the get-go and were lucky to have ended the first-half at 0-0, as the home team launched a series of attacks on their goal.
In minute number 12, Davin McKay raced onto a ball lofted over the top of the defence, rounded the 'keeper, but his shot was brilliantly cleared off the line by Gary McDonald.
Nine minutes later, there was a repeat performance -- this time McKay turned provider as he whipped in a cross from the right that found Christopher Dunn unmarked in the box.
The former Glenmuir High student controlled well to beat Kerron Parchment in goal for Downs, but McDonald was there once again to save the day.
Monymusk would later rue these missed chances, as Downs restarted the game with a clear plan to sit back and hit them on the counter by using St Elizabeth Technical's schoolboy wonder Brown as their point-man.
Their tactics would eventually pay off in the 71st minute when the big centre forward, who was also the leading goalscorer in last season's daCosta Cup competition, picked up the ball just inside of Monymusk's half then powered his way through the entire defence line, before slotting home pass Sheldon Mills in goal.
