VETERAN Reggae Boy Deon Burton has been making an impact in the current season of the Azerbaijan Premier League (Premyer Liqa) after scoring his fourth goal from 15 matches for Qabala.

The 35-year-old striker, who has not played for Jamaica since 2009, netted in time added (92nd minute) Tuesday for Qabala to clip Khazar Lankaran 2-1.

Rahid Amirguliyev put Khazar ahead in the 26th minute while Aleksandr Chertoganov equalised for Qabala in the 41st minute.

Burton, who came on in the 66th minute, started in 13 of his 15 matches. Nine times he was substituted out and has so far logged 1,063 minutes for Qabala, who are in sixth place with 32 points of the 12-team Premyer Liqa.

Khazar are in third place with 38 points, trailing leaders Neftci, 43 points, and Inter Baki, 41 points.

Burton has 59 caps and 12 goals for the Reggae Boyz and was Jamaica's Sportsman of the Year in 1997, after scoring four goals from five matches which ensured Jamaica booked their ticket to the 1998 World Cup.

A star player for Derby County in the 1998-99 season when he was topscorer, Burton is in his second year with Qabala which will play fourth-placed Qarabag in the quarter-finals of the Azerbaijan Cup on March 13 with the return leg on March 28.

He scored nine goals last season, when Qabala finished in seventh place.
