Take Cassanova Boy in principal feature

BY HURBUN WILLIAMS Observer writer

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

UNDEFEATED American import and four-year-old grey gelding Cassanova Boy, another of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's runners heading for the top class, puts his unbeaten record on the line in the $786,500 Zaleucus Trophy, Open Allowance principal feature at Caymanas Park today.

The well-supported 10-race card it will also feature the $570,000 City Of Kingston Centenary Cup, a claiming race in the $550,000 - $500,000 spread for three-year-olds and upward over 1,600 metres. First post is 1:10 pm.

Cassanova Boy, perfect in all his races to date, the exciting four-year-old "A" 1 prospect bids for his sixth consecutive win in the seven-horse field for three-year-olds and upward. Coming in as the winter book favourite with top weight of 57.0kg, the gelding son of Narjan out of Gender Bias (Saratoga Six) will spot rivals up to 11.5kg except for last year's Super Stakes winner, Hombre, who will also carry top weight of 57.0kg in the 1,800 metres contest.

Own by E DaCosta, G Dulal-Whiteway, W Kong and Raymond Rousseau, Cassanova Boy will have his first race since humbling a good field by 5 1/4 lengths in the King's Plate over 1,500 metres 39 days ago on February 6.

Looks to be definitely going places fast the son of Narjan faces a much tougher field on this occasion than on last but has shown enough class in his previous outings to again come out on top. This is very attainable even in the present of some worthwhile opponents that include fellow top weight Hombre, the mount of Dane Nelson, light weights Go My Robin with Georgina Sergeon (46.5kg), Naval Commander, partnered by Peter Bryan (49.0kg) the imported Kokopelli Cat, Conrad Ellis up (45.5kg) Prime Minister with Carlton Malcolm in the saddle (52.0kg) and 2007 Derby winner The Bomber carrying 54.0kg, piloted by Paul Francis, who will enjoy the circular nine course.
