Champs Holy Family kick-off Primary title defence

DEFENDING Kingston champions Holy Family will begin their title defence against Jessie Ripoll in the LIME/ INSPORTS All-Island Primary Schools Football Championship this afternoon at the Bell Chung Stadium, beginning at 1:30.

After last Thursday's colourful launch at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens, a full slate of 15 matches in the four zones will be played today at several venues.

Other matches scheduled are Clan Carthy vs Greenwich at Bell Chung Stadium at 12:15; Mico vs St Andrew at 11:00 am and Franklin Town vs North Street at 12:15 at Duhaney Park; Alpha vs Harbour View at 11:00 am; St Alban's vs Tavares Gardens at 12:15 and Windward Road vs Jones Town at 1:30 at Dunrobin Oval.

St Michael's vs John Mills at 11:00; Rollington Town vs St Francis at 12:15 and Allman Town vs Chetolah Park at 1:30 at Jessie Ripoll School; St. Aloysius vs Elletson at 11:00; Denham Town vs St. Benedict's at 12:15 and Boys' Town vs Excelsior at 1:30 at Mountain View; Holy Rosary vs Whitfield at 12:15 and Trench Town vs Iris Gelly at 1:30 at New Providence.

The competing Primary Schools in the Kingston Zone are:

ZONE "A" - defending champions Holy Family, Central Branch, Clan Carthy, Greenwich, Jessie Ripoll, Mountain View, Franklin Town and North Street.

ZONE "B" - St Aloysius, Elletson, Alpha, Harbour View, St Alban's, Tavares Gardens, Windward Road and Jones Town.

ZONE "C" - Rollington Town, St Francis, Allman Town, Chetolah Park, Mico, St Andrew, St Michael's and John Mills.

ZONE "D" - Denham Town, St Benedict's, Boys' Town, Excelsior, Holy Rosary, Whitfield, Trench Town and Iris Gelly.

The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Last Thursday, defending St Andrew champions Balmagie defeated Shortwood, 3-1, through goals from Alex Gardener in the 19th minute, Rasheed Thomas in the 23rd and Nicholas Badal in the 33rd minutes, while Owen Wright scored the losers' lone goal in the 26th minute. Balmagie led 1-0 at half-time of the 60-minute match.

In the lone Kingston zone played last Thursday, Mountain View, through goals from Tarania Clarke (girl) and Oshane Samules in the 28th and 46th minutes, tagged Central Branch, 2-0, after leading 1-0 at half-time.
