Grenadian football official back on job after suspension

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC) -- A high ranking official of the Grenada Football Association (GFA) has returned to the job after serving an 18-month suspension over allegations of financial impropriety.
Victor Daniel, the GFA's general secretary, was reinstated with "immediate effect" by the FIFA-endorsed Normalization Committee in charge of football on the island.
"Please be informed that Mr Victor Daniel has been reinstated as general secretary of the Grenada Football Association with immediate effect," said the statement released over the weekend.
"The interim Normalisation Committee considered that it would be improper to allow this longstanding matter to remain unresolved any longer."
Daniel's suspension with half pay a year-a-half ago pending the outcome of an investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds, coincided with a leadership feud within the GFA.
The feud led to a series of investigations by football's world governing body, FIFA, and climaxed in the removal of the president Ashey Folkes and his executive.
The Normalisation Committee, headed by speaker of the Grenada Parliament George McGuire, made the announcement following a meeting in which clubs supported a motion for Daniel's reinstatement.
Daniel, a Trinidadian national who owns a sports shop on the island, has suspended a lawsuit against the GFA over his suspension.
"Mr Daniel has agreed to discontinue any legal action against the GFA and we are pleased to announce that the GFA has no legal representation in any suit against Mr Daniel," the statement said.
The Normalisation Committee, appointed by the clubs before the removal of the Folkes executive, will expire in March before fresh general elections are called.
