THREE Jamaicans, including Athletic Director Ventley Brown of GC Foster College, are participating in the first Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) Technical Coaching Strategy Course being held at Brunel University in Uxbridge, west London.

The four-day course, which began yesterday, is featuring coaching philosophy, physiology, technical match aspects, principles of team organisation, anti-doping, session planning, tactics and psychology.

Director of rugby and assistant national coach, Romeo Monteith, and vice-captain of the national rugby team, Roy Calvert, are attending the course with Brown, who is also chairman of the Jamaica Rugby League Association (JRLA).

Brown will also use the occasion to establish links between with UK-based universities and the GC Foster College.

"Rugby League is poised to have a major impact on all levels of in Jamaica," Brown said, and "this includes primary schools, high schools and the tertiary level".

"This course will positively impact the standard of our game at the club and community levels as well, in that we will be able to certify coaches through a MOU between GC Foster College and the JRLA.

"This will be facilitated through the RLEF investing in improving our technical knowledge of both coaching and match official principles," he explained.

The three Jamaicans were able to attend the coaching course through the partnership of JRLA, Virgin Atlantic Airlines and RLEF, which launched an eight-year strategy last August.
