Jamaica finishes fourth in medals table
JAMAICA has finished fourth with nine – four gold, four silver and one bronze – in the medals table at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
The United States topped the table with 25, followed by Russia, 19, and Kenya, 17.
Jamaica’s gold medals were earned by the men’s 4×100 metres relay team (Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt); Usain Bolt in the men’s 200m; Veronica Campbell-Brown, women’s 200m; and Yohan Blake, men’s 100m.
Silvers came from the women’s 4x100m team (Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerron Stewart, Sherone Simpson and Campbell-Brown); Campbell-Brown in the women’s 100m; the women’s 4x400m; and Melaine Walker, 400m hurdles.
Bronze was won by the men’s 4x400m quartet of Allodin Fothergill, Jermaine Gonzales, Riker Hylton and Leford Green.
Jamaica’s best ever performance at the IAAF World Championships came two years ago in Berlin, Germany when a haul of 13 medals (seven gold, four silver and two bronze) saw the country finish second in the table.
