La's Dancer cruises in Reca Trophy

LA'S Dancer left it for late. But the 5-1 betting option rapidly made up ground after being slowly into stride and came home with a scorching run to win the $492,000 Reca Trophy claiming feature by 2 1/2 lengths at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Trained by Wilfred Chin, La's Dancer ran 1,400 metres in a time of 1:28.2 to give jockey Dane Nelson his second win on the 10-race card and his second consecutive principal feature win after his midweek heroics aboard Prince Of Arabia in similar fashion.
It was also the second win for trainer Chin, who shared training honours with Anthony Nunes, who also saddled two winners
It was also the third win for the consistent galloper of the season from 13 starts and was achieved among an eight-horse field of $350,000 - $300,000 claimers three-year-olds upward the highest he has won against all season.
Il Caimano, who was running at this level for the second time after dropping from a $450,000 claiming tag, claimed second under top apprentice Doushane Gordon at an 8-1 chance.
Natural Heart, neglected in the betting at 14-1 ridden by the champion and leading jockey Omar Walker, closed for third, with Seek Gold, the 7-5 favourite ridden by Winston Griffiths, closing the frame.
Being the Hit-Six race on the card, Hey Train, ridden by leading apprentice Aaron Chatrie, came in fifth at odds of 5-1 while the 6-1 chance Classy Prospect, who dictated the early fractions partnered by Shane Ellis, completed the Hit-Six exotic bet frame at odds of 5-1.
Owned by Barrington E Bernard, La's Dancer, a once promising three-year-old prospect, now six, is a chestnut horse by Royal Minister out of Lady Anandi (Big Prince) and bred by Henry Jaghai.
It was La's Dancer's seventh win from 41 career starts and pocketed $268,450 as the winner's share for his connections for earnings of $2,782,300 lifetime.
Meanwhile, amid the noise and haste of local thoroughbred racing, 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny posted his 1800th winner at Caymanas Park yesterday with 1-4 favourite She Sell Off ridden by Trevor Simpson in a maiden special weight event for native-bred and imported two-year-olds.
Feanny, who won his first race back in 1976 with Winsor, in recent years have turned his attention to the breeding of horses, rather than training them.
After training some outstanding thoroughbreds in triple Crown Winner Simply Magic, A King Is Born, Eros, I'msatistisfied, The Viceroy — to name a few — he has recently bred outstanding runners in Bruceontheloose, Saint Cecelia and Mark My Word, this year's Triple Crown winner.
