MoBay Mayor lauds WJ champ Lee

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Mayor of Montego Bay Charles Sinclair has lauded World Youth and World Junior 100-metres champion Dexter Lee for his outstanding performance at the just concluded 13th IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada.
"I am pleased and honoured to offer my own personal congratulations to Dexter Lee, who has again made Jamaica — and I am sure, many Montegonians — very proud, as he continues to improve his phenomenal winning streak in track and field, indicating to the nation the great rewards to be accomplished when youth are effectively supported by the family, the community and learning institutions," Sinclair said.
Just over a week ago Lee, a former student of Herbert Morrison Comprehensive High School in Montego Bay, became the first athlete to win back-to-back titles at the championships.
He was also a member of the men's 4x100m relay which copped silver at the meet.
The young athlete stopped the clock at 10.21 seconds in his 100m race, well below his personal and season best 10.16, beating American Charles Silmon and France's Jimmy Vicaut.
Mayor Sinclair noted that it was because of Lee's tenacity and athletic prowess that the St James Parish Council saw it fit-- almost two years ago -- to honour him at a special sitting of the council.
At that time, Lee had just won the World Junior Championship 100m in Bydgoszcz, Poland, a year after winning the World Youth Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
"This latest success makes me feel doubly proud for I, along with my colleagues, saw in this young man a promise for our future; we saw a young man determined to win, even against the odds," Sinclair explained.
Added Sinclair: "Indeed, Dexter Lee is another exemplary role model for our Jamaican youth and he has again proved that Jamaica has the potential to develop athletes of the highest calibre, further increasing the nation's custom of excellence."
