Munro, JC in U-19 hockey final

DEFENDING champions Munro College will face Jamaica College (JC) in the final of the ISSA/JHF Schools Under-19 League next week Wednesday at Mona after semi-final victories last Tuesday.
Brandon Clarke added his sixth goal of the season when he scored in the 39th minute for Munro -- who are seeking their fifth consecutive Under-19 title -- to clip Wolmer's Boys 1-0, while Kemar Mitchell completed a hat-trick for JC who blanked Tivoli Gardens High 3-0.
The 18-year-old Mitchell, arguably the best player in the competition this season, was on target in the fifth, 27th, and 40th minutes to lead all scorers with nine goals.
After the match, Munro's coach Fitzroy Rowe said: "I don't think we have been playing the sort of hockey that we have played over the years. But what is important is that we have taken it one day at a time. We have studied our opponents and we have done enough to reach where we are now, which is in the final."
For JC's coach Orane Charlton, the Old Hope Road-based school entered the competition to win six matches and the victory against Tivoli, whose players are all under 16 years of age, was a "stepping stone to the final match which we expect to do well on Wednesday".
Meanwhile, defending Under-19 Girls champions Papine High will take on either Alpha Academy or Immaculate Conception tomorrow at 3:00 pm in one semi-final, while St Andrew High face old rivals Excelsior High at 4:00 pm in the other.
Papine topped the preliminary competition with 14 points, two ahead of St Andrew, who finished second in the group following a 1-0 win over Immaculate on Monday, courtesy of a Kamille Griffiths' goal.
