Portmore duo set for MLS trial stints
SW
Sunday, January 22, 2012
THE Portmore United duo of Andrew Vanzie and Alanzo Adlam are set for trials with two US Major League outfits.
Vanzie, 21, the former daCosta Cup player at Garvey Maceo High and a key midfielder at Portmore, is scheduled to strut his stuff for the Seatle Sounders.
Vanzie has also represented Jamaica at the Under-23 level and made his debut for the senior team in an international friendly against Ecuador in Quito last September.
Twenty-two-year-old Adlam, an Excelsior High Manning Cup player who has also represented the Under-20 and Under-23 teams, is due to do his stint at DC.
Adlam has been instrumental to a resurgent Portmore United in the Red Stripe Premier League, having scored eight goals so far to propel him to joint leading scorer with four other players.
Portmore United chairman Wayne Sinclair, said "this is a fantastic opportunity for Andrew and Alanzo".
While it's the philosophy of Portmore to develop and trade players for the international markets, it is always difficult to part with players who are key to the team's domestic ambitions.
"Though it is always a challenge to replace such a key part of your setup, we continue to support our core philosophy of putting the personal and professional development of our players ahead of what may be the best interests of the team," said Sinclair.
"We have the depth to continue our successful run so far this season, and sincerely hope that these trials will result in a permanent move for both players," he added.
Vanzie, who departed the island last Tuesday, is expected to be at the Sounders for four weeks, while Adlam is set for a two-week stint with DC United and will leave for Washington tomorrow.
