Rodwood beat Black Lion, close gap
A Hancel
Saturday, February 25, 2012
A 72nd-minute strike from Cleveland Hall steered Rodwood FC to a 1-0 win over Black Lion FC in Tuesday's lone game in the LIME/St Catherine Major League.
It was a crucial victory for coach Floyd Coke and his Rodwood players as they narrowed the gap to two points on leaders Frazsiers Whip, who had opened a five-point lead last weekend.
Black Lion, meantime, were suffering their sixth defeat from 15 matches and are two points above the relegation zone, in eighth place.
Their visit to Waterford was expected to be a fruitless one, but credit must be given to Black Lion as they managed to contain the hosts for more than 70 minutes until Hall broke the deadlock with his sixth league goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Albion United consolidated their sixth-placed position in the LIME Division One League after the St Catherine FA's Competitions Committee awarded them three points and a three-goal margin of victory.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Norman Blair-chaired Committee ruled that "the matter relating to Benbow United failing to turn up for their game against Albion FC on Sunday, January 15, 2012 has been awarded to Albion FC".
Benbow remain at the bottom of the nine-team standing with a record of three wins and six defeats from 11 games and are in danger of being relegated.
