St Mary, Belair, Manchester take TT titles

ST Mary High won two titles and Belair and Manchester High one each in the Rural Finals of the ISSA table tennis competition at Manchester auditorium on Tuesday.

St Mary dethroned defending champions Glenmuir for the Under-19 girls crown and retained the Under-16 boys title; Belair dethroned four-times defending champions St Mary High in the boys Under-19, and Manchester dethroned St Mary for the girls Under-16 crown.

In the finals, three of them between St Mary High and Belair, Belair won 4-1 in boys Under-19; St Mary stopped Belair 3-1 in girls Under-19; St Mary High edged Belair 3-2 in boys Under-16; and Manchester defeated Glenmuir 3-1 in the girls Under-16.

The St Mary High team is coached by Shevaar Smith and Garfield Ashley, Belair by Patrick Clarke, and Manchester by Carl Daley and Peter Kavanaugh.

Richard Thompson, principal of Titchfield and ISSA's new director for table tennis, was in attendance.

In the play-off for third place, Manchester blanked Glenmuir 5-0 in boys Under-19, while from the round-robin format, Glenmuir placed third in girls Under-19, DeCarteret third in boys Under-16 and St Mary third in girls Under-16.

The All-Island finals will take place tomorrow at the Hy-Performance Centre, Hope Pastures.

In girls matches at 11:00 am, St Mary High will tackle Meadowbrook in Under-19 and Manchester will face Campion in Under-16.

In boys matches at 1:00 pm, Belair will oppose Calabar in Under-19 and St Mary High will take on Campion College in Under-16.
