SVL boosts national rugby team with $100,000 sponsorship

CORPORATE gaming giant Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) has given the Jamaican Rugby League Association (JLRA) a vote of confidence with a $100,000 sponsorship for the national team.
The national rugby team is to participate in a tri-nation series in Philadelphia, Pennslyvania against home team United States and South Africa in October this year and the sponsorship will assist in this regard.
"Although Rugby League may be considered a minor sport locally," said SVL Senior Corporate Communications Officer Carlene Edwards, "we at SVL regard all sports as equally important, as it helps to develop teamwork and camaraderie among our youths".
Winner of the tri-series will play in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup in the United Kingdom.
Since its beginning in 2004, Jamaican Rugby League has grown with over 500 players in clubs and learning institutions competing.
Jamaica earned their first international win when they defeated Canada last November and will play the North Americans again July 31 this year in Toronto in preparation for the tri-series.
The Jamaicans have played the USA twice, losing on both occasions, but will clash with the South Africans for the first time.
For Jamaica's historic quest to qualify for the Rugby World Cup, Supreme Ventures has joined Virgin Atlantic Airlines, Body Bro Gym, UK-based Kukri Sport UK Limited as official partners.
JLRA development manager Romeo Monteith has expressed confidence that Jamaica "will create sporting history in October".
"It is important to us as we seek to inspire Jamaican youth and show that any dream can be realised. We are hoping to see many more sponsors come on board, as we need all the support we can get to put Jamaica into the 2013 World Cup," he said.
