Thursday, March 18, 2010

EXCELSIOR slammed Campion College 7-0 in their ISSA/Locker Room Sports Girls football match at Campion yesterday to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches in Group D.

Shanell Spence netted a hat-trick and Nicole Broderick a brace for the former champions, who now have 30 points -- three more than second-placed Ardenne.

Both teams have already booked their places in the second round.

In the group's other games, Reneisha Powell's treble gave Ardenne a 3-0 win over Tivoli Gardens High.

Shadie Shirley, Shantel Bailey and Tasheka Reid scored a goal each as Charlie Smith defeated Papine 3-0 in another game.

In Group F, Trench Town and group leaders St Hugh's High played to a 1-1 draw. Reneish Sullivan got Trench Town's goal, while Teressa Sullivan replied for St Hugh's.

St Hugh's lead that group with 24 points, followed by Trench Town with 23 and Wolmer's Girls' with 22. Two rounds of matches remain in this group.

Meanwhile, St James High have already advanced from Group A and will be joined by either Spot Valley or Grange Hill High from the group.

St Elizabeth Technical with 26 points and Christiana with 24 secured the two automatic berths from Group B, while in Group C, Tacius Golding with 30 points lead Lennon by two.

In Group E, St Jago are way out front with maximum 30 points from 10 starts. On Tuesday, the St Catherine school defeated Bridgeport High 2-0, while Donald Quarrie beat Innswood 1-0 on a Monique Merchant goal to remain second with 21 points.

Bridgeport are third on 16 points, but still have a chance to take second spot in the group.
