Strikers cut down Blades in 'A' League

GC Foster Strikers 'A' defeated Blades United 'A' 42-27 as the 2012 Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Division 'A' League got underway last Thursday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
The former Super League aggregation, coached by C Lloyd Walker who was demoted to the A League this season, came from a first quarter 10-11 deficit to outscore the Rowan Byfield-coached Blades 'A' for the rest of the match. At half time, GC Foster 'A' led 23-13.
GC Foster 'A' went on to win the match easily as they led 31-22 at the completion of the third quarter and finished off the match with a 42-27 win. Petal Smith scored 21 goals from 33 attempts and Shantal Slater with 21 goals from 31 efforts for the winners, while Amarita Smith netted 12 goals from 15 attempts for the losers.
Meanwhile, Police 'A' held off a late burst from Alexander Strikers 'A' to come out with a narrow 41-40 win in a thrilling encounter.
Alexander 'A' led 13-7 at the first quarter break before Police 'A' rallied to take the lead 22-17 at half time.
The third quarter was also an exciting affair with Police 'A' still leading, 33-29, at the final break. It was in the fourth quarter that brought the action to a momentum with Alexander 'A' going neck-and-neck with Police and at times outscoring them.
In another 'A' League encounter, Molynes United 'A' came out with a convincing 48-29 win over Ebony Strikers 'A'.
Results of Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Division 'C' League matches played last Tuesday: Jobs Lane United Brseton 30-20; Duhaney Park outscored Rollington Town 29-20; newcomers Tantrum beat another newcomer Duncan Strikers 26-21; Newcomers Hannah Town got the better of Springfield 18-13; Molynes United 'C' beat OMEGA 'C' 15-11; newcomers Fresh Approach clipped Hagley Park 'B' 17-16; Blades United 'B' and City Stars played to a 17-17 draw; Alexander Strikers 'B' and Rivoli United 'B' also played to a 17-17 tie.
Due to the Gibson's Relays taking place today, the competition in both divisions will continue tomorrow at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 2:00 pm.
