Top Grenada swimmer sets new record
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (CMC) — Grenada’s top male swimmer Esau Simpson has set a new national record after posting a personal best in the 50 yard freestyle at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Alabama on Wednesday.
Simpson, an Olympic swimmer at the London 2012 Games, reached the final of the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 11th out of 59 competitors with a personal best of 20.36 seconds, a Grenada record.
Simpson, competing for Nova Southeastern University, also recorded the second fastest relay split time of 19.58 seconds in the 200-yd medley relay.
Only Michael Branning’s 19.34 seconds of Grand Canyon University was faster.
The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association selected Simpson as the most outstanding male swimmer for 2012.
