Wolmer's Girls' advance to volleyball semis
Thursday, March 18, 2010
UNBEATEN Wolmer's Girls' secured their place in the semi-finals of the ISSA Under-19 female volleyball tournament after a 3-0 victory over Camperdown High in a Group A match at Wolmer's yesterday.
The Oniel Ebanks-coached team defeated their east-Kingston opponents 25-16, 25-10, 25-16 to stretch their winning streak to 14 games.
In the day's other game, defending champions Old Harbour kept their semi-finals chances alive after a 3-0 win over Muschette.
The Kevin Patterson-coached Old Harbour edged their opponent 25-24 in all three sets to join Camperdown in second on four points, two behind leaders Wolmer's.
Camperdown and Wolmer's will meet in the group's final game on Monday at Camperdown, to see who get the other spot.
Meanwhile, both Group B games have been rescheduled for today. St Jago will host Knox College, while Alpha Academy entertain Mannings.
St Jago and Mannings can book their places in the last four with victories this afternoon. Both are atop the group with three points after victories over Alpha and Knox respectively, in their opening games.
Victory for the two teams today would give them an unassailable six points, and only group honours would be of significance when the teams meet in their final game on Monday.
