Vassell double spurs Faulkland in Western Confed Super League

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Promoted Faulkland FC moved into third place in the overall points tables in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charlie’s JB Rum Super League after beating defending champions Granville United 2-1 in their cross-zone game at Jarrett Park on Saturday.


Peter-Lee Vassell scored both goals for Faulkland FC, who leaped over Montego Bay Boys Club, with the latter playing out a 1-1 draw with mid-season champions Reggae Youths at the UDC field.


Reggae Youths are in second place on 20 points after the draw on Saturday, one point ahead of Faulkland FC, while Montego Bay Boys Club are on 18 points in fourth place.


All three goals came in a 17-minute span early in the second half as Vassell gave Faulklands FC the lead in the 50th minute, Demar Doeman equalised in the 58th minute for the champions, but Vassell got the winner in the 67th.


In a bruising encounter at the UDC field, Oshane Thompson scored in the 10th minute to give Reggae Youths the lead, but Leroy Christie scored a powerful header in the 57th minute as Boys Club salvaged a point from the game.
