Windies quick rested for match against CCC

Thursday, February 23, 2012

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Barbados have left out pacer Fidel Edwards from their final squad for their fourth round match in the Regional Four-Day Championships against Combined Campuses and Colleges starting here tomorrow.

While the release from the Barbados Cricket Association did not offer a reason for his omission, an official source confirmed to CMC Sports that the West Indies speedster had been rested at the request of the West Indies Cricket Board.

The source said it was a matter of workload management and keeping Edwards fresh in light of upcoming assignments against Australia in the Caribbean starting next month, the tour of England in May/June and New Zealand's Caribbean campaign starting in July.

He has been replaced by off-spinning all-rounder Kenroy Williams who missed the last game against Trinidad and Tobago through injury. It is the only change to the squad.

Barbados are currently tied with Windward Islands and CCC on 12 points, after chalking up their first win of the competition with a five-wicket triumph over Trinidad and Tobago last weekend at Kensington Oval.

The upbeat Barbadians will take on CCC at the Oval under lights starting 3:30 pm.

SQUAD — Kirk Edwards (captain), Tino Best, Sulieman Benn, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Shane Dowrich, Ryan Hinds, Christopher Jordan, Omar Phillips, Kemar Roach, Kenroy Williams.
