The Fan Appreciation Day Trophy will highlight a three-trophy, 10-race programme to usher in the racing season for 2018 on New Year's Day at Caymanas Park today.

The other trophy races on the card are the New Year's Day Trophy and the McKay Security Trophy Limited.

The Fan Appreciation Day Trophy, an Overnight Allowance event, will run over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) for a purse of $1 million. A field of nine will run.

The Fan Appreciation Day Trophy call features a number of fit and in-form starters headed by recent convincing winners Dontae and the old-timer Timeforarms. For the extended sprint call, Dontae and Timeforarms will find in Awesome Destiny, the top-weighted Royal Vibes, stablemate Dysfunctional, Shining Light and Lucky Stroke the level of competitive challenges to make the event live up to its feature billing.

Dontae, trained by Anthony Nunes, is a most consistent bay colt by Fearless Vision out of the He'stherealthing mare Eighteen Karat, and with only 25 yards more to travel than he did in his win on last, looks certain to be among the top contenders for parity. The event is scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:35 pm with the first post at 12:10 pm.

The New Year's Day Trophy, though small, is a compact field of six that is another competitive affair. The four-year-old and upward Restricted Allowance 111 (NW3OT) event will go six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) for a purse of $870,000, and once again trainer Anthony Nunes has a very strong hand present in A.P.I., Blue Tradition and Musketoon.

A.P.I. was recently beaten by a mere head by Cartel, and with no Cartel around on this occasion, the Blue Pepsi Lodge chestnut filly could return to her accustomed winning ways at the expense of Malachi, her main threat.

One of the more popular trophy races of the day's card will be the McKay Security Ltd Trophy call among a field of four-year-olds and upward $180,000 claiming spread, where a good crop of nine will run over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) for a purse of $1 million.

Topping the list of runners is the recently claimed 10-year-old mare Moneyneversleep. She will be joined by the nine-year-old Cause For Concern, Chief Secretariat and He'sthereal Links to make the McKay Security Ltd Trophy just as competitive or even more so than at the higher level of participation.
