MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Catherine Hall All-stars secured third place in the Western Basketball Association Elite League last Saturday after upsetting defending champions Granville Jaguars 74-69 in their rescheduled second-round game played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.

Catherine Hall were led by a triple-double from Goyan Malcolm as well as a game-high 35 points from Michael Schloss as they racked up their 10th win of the season.

Granville were losing back-to-back games after winning their first 12 in a row as All-Stars secured third place after moving to 22 points, the same as Holland Saints, who edged Sav-Elite Titans 49-47 in the other game played Saturday.

Catherine Hall, however, have a game in hand against Cricket Club Knights and will finish ahead of Holland Saints in the standing once they show up for the game.

Granville Jaguars ended their regular-season schedule with 26 points, one more than Knights, who could take over the lead with a win over Catherine Hall.

A big third quarter gave Catherine Hall a lead they would not let go of after Jaguars had rallied in the second half to take the lead after they trailed by three points, 18-21, at the end of the first quarter.

Granville surged ahead at half-time, leading by just one point, 38-37, but Catherine Hall rebounded to lead by 13 points, 62-49, and then held on to win despite a spirited late rally by the defending champions.

Malcolm scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds and 11 assists, while Jermaine Rerrie and Odaine Whittaker each had 15 rebounds and Kurt Dorman also got 11 rebounds.

The Catherine Hall team also combined for 11 blocked shots, five of them by Rerrie.

David Gordon led Granville with a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds. Levar Rose scored 11 points and Brendon Dawkins had 10 rebounds.

In the other game, Kenrick Lindo's double-double led Holland Saints to a close win as they won back-to-back games after losing their previous five encounters.

Holland led 10-6 after a slow first quarter, but Sav-Elite upped the tempo in the second and led by 14 points, 27-13, at half-time.

Saints then had their best quarter as they outscored Sav-Elite 18-0 to take the lead 31-27.

Lindo scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds for Holland Saints, Aldane Anderson scored 19 points and David Jarrett had 14 rebounds.

Rushane Drummond scored 13 points and had 20 rebounds for Sav Elite, Troy Reid scored 16 points and Richard Munroe scored 15 rebounds.
