Catherine Hall seek semi berth in WBA league

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Catherine Hall All-Stars could become the third team to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Western Basketball Association Elite League today when they take on Inner-City Avalanche at the Montego Bay Cricket Club in a rescheduled second round game set to start at 6:15pm.

Catherine Hall, who have won their last two games, are in third place on 18 points, behind qualifiers Granville Jaguars, who won their 11th-straight game on Tuesday to lead with 22 points. Cricket Club Knights, who beat Holland Knights 64-57, sit on 21 points.

Despite losing their last three games, Holland Saints are currently occupying the final semi-final spot on 17 points, two more than Lucea Flames who will play Cornwall Courts Chargers in the second game today.

On Tuesday, Rayon Gardiner and Antonio Spence both got double-doubles to lead Cricket Club Knights to a comfortable win after being tied at half-time.

Cricket Club led by three points 16-13 after the first quarter but Holland Saints rallied in the second quarter and tied up the scores at 28-all at the half time break.

Cricket Club turned up the intensity in the third quarter, doubling up Holland 20-10 to lead 48-38, as Gardiner led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds as well as seven assists and steals. Spence scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds, while Ralique Grant also contributed 10 points with Jhaun Bryan and Omroy Kerr both grabbing 10 rebounds.

Aldaine Anderson led Holland with 17 points, coach/player Ricardo Brooks scored 14 points, and David Jarrett scored 10 points.

After trailing by five points 12-17 at the end of the first quarter to Lucea Flames, Granville outscored the Hanover club 49-33 over the next two quarters to take the lead by double-digits 61-50 going into the fourth quarter.

Leroy Lawrence had a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds to spur Jaguars, while Levar Rose scored 19 points. Jvon Calderon also had a double-double for Lucea with 18 points and 14 rebounds, with Sheldon Myrie getting a game-high 23 points, while Courtney Allen scored 10 points and Sherwin Gilzine grabbed 15 rebounds.
