Tuesday, September 11, 2018

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Catherine Hall All-star won their second Western Basketball Association Elite League title on Saturday after upsetting top seed Cricket Club Knights by beating 85-80 in Game Two at the Cricket Club Courts, and grabbing a 2-0 win in their best-of-three finals.

Catherine Hall, the third seed, finished the season strong, winning four games in a row in the play-offs after coming from a game down to beat defending champions Granville Jaguars 2-1. They won the first game of the series against the Knights 76-68 before completing the win on Saturday.

They added to the win in 2016 and join Granville on two wins each.

Vaughn Corke scored a double-double for Catherine Hall and Michael Schloss had a game-high 37 points as they survive several rallies from the Knights, who came from double-digit deficits to within a point on two occasions late in the game.

All-stars led by 13 points 28-15 after the first quarter. However, Cricket Club rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 41-48 at half-time.

Cricket Club further cut the deficit to 67-70 at the end of the third quarter, setting up a tense final quarter but Catherine Hall's better physical conditioning took them over the line.

Corke scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds. Jhaun Bryan had a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds) for Knights Antonio, while Spence scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
