DaCosta Cup kingpins, Cornwall College, yesterday dispelled any doubts that they are the best schoolboy team in the country when they demolished Corporate Area champions, Bridgeport High, 7-0 in the return-leg of the Olivier Shield final at Harbour View.

Cornwall won the Shield 9-3 on aggregate after trailing their St Catherine counterparts 3-2 at the end of the first leg in Montego Bay last Saturday.

Cornwall, in capturing the deserved triple -- having also won the Ben Francis KO -- gave a stellar performance and showed they were a class above their rivals.

It was a fine victory for coach, Dr Dean Weatherly, who was winning the coveted title for the first time after two previous failures.

"I said it, we were clearly a cut above Bridgeport and it showed here today," said Weatherly.

"The guys knew what they had to do to show that we are the best team around and they did, a feat which is awesome and I'm deeply proud of them," said Weatherly, a past student of Cornwall.

Winning captain, Garrick Gordon, was also elated: "I'm really happy I was able to get two goals. This year is our year and no one was going to take it from us. I am excited and happy we ended the season on a high note, we deserve it," he said.

For the Manning and Walker Cup title-holders, Bridgeport, it was a day they will quickly want to forget as Cornwall took control from the opening whistle and never looked back.

The St James standard bearers, who were notching an 11th lien on the Shield, picked up where they left off in Montego Bay.

Opening the show with deft touches and slippery moves, they penetrated the heart of their opponents' defence, led by top midfielder, Deshaun Woolery, and speedy winger, Dane Richards.

Bridgeport's goalie, Maurice Evans, was put to the test as early as the first minute but after executing several saves, his impeccable record was tarnished by a ruthless Cornwall aggregation.

The winners took the lead when forward, Orlando Coleman, deflected Kirkland Smith's free-kick in the 24th minute.

A minute later, they went 2-0 up following an excellent build-up down the left flank, which Gordon clinically finished.

CC closed the first half 4-0 up when Gordon and Coleman added their second goals -- effectively silencing the Bridgeport supporters.

The losers, who reportedly had internal problems before the game, then enjoyed moments of dominance following the insertion of lanky midfielder, Oneil Thompson. However, the rampage continued.

Defender, Kenneil Blake, scored Cornwall's fifth goal and when Smith's left-footer beat Evans, Cornwall's demolition job was complete.

"They never wanted to play today as a result of boots situation and it showed," said coach, Anthony Patrick, who was disappointed at the way his team lost.

"I'm very, very proud of taking the Manning and Walker Cups but disappointed we lost 7-0. But that's how it goes when players are indisciplined, things like this will happen," he said.

Earlier, Norman Manley won the all-island Under-16 title by defeating Tichfield High 2-0 courtesy of first-half strikes from Nicholas Hoshing and Donald Hutchinson.
