Boys' Town, Santos look to cement berth
FOOTBALL -- KSAFA Major League
LIVINGSTON SCOTT
Saturday, March 23, 2002

BOYS' Town and Santos hope to cement their places in the final of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Major League when they take on Real Mona and JDF at Barbican and Constant Spring respectively in the second-leg semis today, starting 3:00 pm.

Mona have a tough assignment as they try to overcome a 5-1 deficit against Boys' Town folowing the first leg, while Santos try to maintain a slim 1-0 lead against the Soldiers.

Boys' Town coach, Andrew Pryce, is looking to wrap up their game without much difficulty: "We have worked hard all this week and will not be going into the game complacent.

"We want to show that we have the capability of inflicting the same kind of damage we did last week and we're going for ... victory. We want to enter the final with a good win to give us a morale boost," said Pryce.

Boys' Town, who will be missing inspirational captain, Fitzroy Anglin, will look to Marvin Morgon, Oneil and Dean Thompson, Michael Alexander and Oneil Campbell.

Mona's coach, Patrick Walters, insists his team just has to go out and play and try to win the game. However, he notes that "our defence and our goalkeeper will have to give a better performance and the team has to be very positive for the whole 90 minutes".

Four goals down, Walters knows the extent of his task but is nevertheless prepared to try: "We're in a position that we cannot go there and sit on our laurels ... we have to go there and take all our chances. We have to go there and do our best and try to achieve a difficult task," he said.

Mona's main hope rests on the shoulders of Owen McLean, Conrad Hunt, Morlon Bailey, Otis Pinnock and Ewan Thomas.

According to Carlton Dennis, Santos' coach, "We're going to defend and attack, but we're planning to use the counter-attacking game because they (JDF) have to attack to score, so we'll just sit back and wait on them and try to get some goals."

Santos will look to Richard West, Fabian Nethersole, Andrew Sewell and Hanif Freckleton to lead their victory charge.

However, the JDF have other ideas. The teams have met twice this season and on both occasions Santos won by a penalty.

But JDF's Alvarie Legister is confident of making the final: "We had a reasonable game against Santos, we never scored our chances, but we contained their strikers.

"I'm sure we can get two goals against them. We created the chances, we just need to score them but we're definitely coming to be in the final," he said.

In the Syd Bartlett semis at 1:00, Rae Town take a 2-1 lead over Pembroke Hall at Barbican, while UWI and Brown's Town will try to break their 0-0 deadlock at Constant Spring.
