Slipped Saddle cops top prize

Wayne McCulloch (Slipped Saddle) and Leslie McLean (Hot Spur) copped the top prizes in the 2002 Capital Betting and Wagering Limited/Jamaica Observer Tipsters' competition.

McCulloch emerged winner of the plus monetary category with $10,100.20 positive for the year to capture the top prize of $50,000. He was the only tipster to end up with any money at the end of the year as the eight remaining tipsters all exhausted their nominal amount of $10,000.

McLean who won in 2001 celebrated his second straight title in the most win category, ending the year with 363 winners to waltz away with the $10,000 prize. McLean ended the year nine winners clear of closest rival John Mills (Compu-Form) 354, Ian Burnett (Kilogram) in third 352, Wayne McCulloch (Slipped Saddle) and Rohan Daley (Winner's Edge), both with 343 wins in fourth.

Nine tipsters will be vying for the top prize this year with two new entrants, Mark Orelue representing (Ultraquest) and Michael O'Connor for (At The Track).

Change of stables

The following horses have changed stables: Dramatics has moved from the stables of Patrick Fong and is now being trained by Robert Darby Jr; Veronica's Special has moved from under the care of Lincoln Glave and is now being conditioned by Donovan Raymond; Fight To Win has moved from the stables of Stedman Curtis and is now being trained by George Robb.

Straighttotheheart has moved from the stables of Victor Williams and is now being trained by Michael Mattis; and Ambushindinite has moved from the stables of Rupert Ferryman and is now being trained by Jackson Hong.

Horses claimed

Six claims took place on Saturday's 12-race programme at Caymanas Park.

Action was claimed by trainer, Charles Morrissey, for owner, Donovan Plummer, for $150,000; Francesca's Dream was claimed by trainer, Richard Todd, for owner, The T's Stable, for $150,000; and War Edge was claimed by trainer, Randolph Scott, for owner, Clarence Green, for $145,000 from the fifth race.

Pleasant Wood was claimed by trainer, Richard Todd, for owner, Everton McDonald, for $290,000 from the seventh race.

Awesome Gain was claimed by trainer, Tensang Chung, for owner, George "P", for $100,000; and Dealwithit was claimed by trainer, Michael Hall, for owner, Edward Thomas, for $100,000 from the 10th race.

Six horses will start their racing careers over the two-day racing carnival at Caymanas Park

On Friday's nine-race programme: Aero Commander, a three-year-old chestnut filly by Prime Rate Powers -- For My Jet by Forsythe Boy, trained by Percival Hussey; BB's Angel, a three-year-old bay filly by Royal Minister --Working Girl by Mr Nutcracker, trained by Norman Rose; Empress Methabell, a three-year-old roan filly by Slick Trick -- Princess Teruku by Big Prince, trained by Bernard Vincent in the sixth race.

Then on Saturday's 11-race programme: Mama Nellie, an imported three-year-old brown filly by Devil's Cry -- Dancing Starlet by Fuzziano, trained by Robert Darby Sr in the fifth race.

Prince Zebo, a four-year-old bay colt by The Medic -- One Rose by Bagdad, trained by Colin Ferguson; Sir Vishnu Kumar, a five-year-old bay colt by Restless Thief -- Island Chimes by Ack Ack, trained by Alvin Carnegie in the eighth race.
