MAVERLEY/Hughenden maintained their unbeaten run in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League after battling to a fierce 0-0 draw with last season's beaten finalists, Boys' Town, at Maverley Park at the weekend.
The win keeps Maverley on top of the league with 10 points from four matches, but Santos managed to close the three-point gap on the Dennis Duncan-coached team to just a point after they scored a 3-2 win over Real Mona at Buttercup Park.
In other games, Rockfort turned back Olympic Gardens, 2-0, Barbican stunned Mountain View, 5-1, while Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Duhaney Park played to a 1-1 tie.
At Maverley, the chances were few and far between although the match was an action-packed one. Maverley seemed eager to continue their winning streak as they pressed forward from the opening whistle.
However, they found the hard-running Boys' Town too tough to handle.
The hosts had a few good opportunities, but strikers, Mark McLean and Locksley Thompson, failed to convert, while Patrick Reid had a freekick cleared off the line.
Boys' Town also made a few threatening moves, especially in the second half and they thought they had the winner, but Michael Campbell's shot hit the crossbar and rebounded into play.
Boys' Town's coach, Andrew Pryce, said it was good result: "We battled hard in foreign territory ... we got two or three chances but I think a stalemate was best result," he said.
His counterpart, Dennis, said despite losing their 100 per cent record he was pleased with the result: "We still lead the standings and ... I saw signs of improvement. The team played to instructions and it's only sad we didn't score," he said.
Meanwhile, Barbican jumped to third from fifth place with their big win against Mountain View. They move to seven points, overtaking the idle Bull Bay (six).
Boys' Town are joint fourth with Bull Bay, but the former are ahead by virtue of a better goal difference.
At Up Park Camp, Duhaney Park secured their first point in three matches after battling to a 1-1 draw with the Soldiers.
