Phoenix United slapped with $10,000 fine
FOOTBALL - St Catherine Major League
Observer Reporter
Thursday, January 08, 2004

A physical attack on referee, Howard Stennett, and his assistant, Wayne Grant, at a game between St Catherine Major League teams, Phoenix United and Naggohead FC, at Ebony Vale playfield, resulted in the disciplinary committee of the St Catherine FA slapping Phoenix United with a $10,000 fine, due by January 9.

In addition, Phoenix United player, Aaron McDonald, and club official, Malachi Reid, have been suspended indefinitely after the duo failed to attend a disciplinary hearing at the Association's headquarters in Spanish Town recently.

The game ended prematurely with Naggohead leading 2-0.
The Observer learnt that in the 70th minute of the game McDonald - who was yellow carded for an offence - responded by behaving boisterously and disrespectfully to the referee, who again booked him, which led to his expulsion from the game.

McDonald continued his ungentlemanly conduct by striking linesman, Grant, in his chest.

Players from both teams tried desperately to restrain the offender, but this further infuriated McDonald, who broke loose and attacked Stennett who, along with Grant, was making his way to the safety of his vehicle.

Evidently still not satisfied, McDonald next vented his anger by striking Naggohead player, Nicholas Williams, in the face.
While this was taking place, all hell broke loose with spectators from both sides joining in the fray, while Stennett and Grant made their way to the safety of the Spanish Town Police Station where they filed an official report.

McDonald and Reid have since been summoned to attend the next disciplinary meeting convened by the association.
Meanwhile, as action continued in the Cable & Wireless Central St Catherine football league, Raiders, McCooks Pen/Fraziers Whip, and Spring Village lead Zones One, Two and Three respectively with 13, nine and seven points.

Second in Zone One are Ensom City with nine points, followed by Eltham Park eight, Ferderal United five, Tryall Heights four, and Sligoville FC, three.

Flamingo hold second spot with seven points in Zone Two with Cresent on one point and Golden Mc Coy zero.
In Zone Three, Bodles Strikers are on six points, followed by
Nightingale Grove and Island Farms both on four, while National Irrigation are yet to get off the mark.
