Friday, March 19, 2004

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) - The next Confederations Cup will be played in Germany from June 15-29, 2005.

The eight-team event will be held in five of six venues - Hannover, Leipzig, Cologne, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Gelsenkirchen, FIFA announced yesterday. The details have to be ratified by the FIFA executive committee.

Host Germany, world champion Brazil, Tunisia and Mexico are already guaranteed places, along with the winners of this year's continental championships in Asia, South America, Oceania and Europe.

The Confederations Cup is being held in Germany as a test event for the 2006 World Cup.
