Morant Bay High School clinched the Jamaica National/Jamaica Public Service two-day Eastern Athletic Championship yesterday at the National Stadium, amassing 660.50 points.
Class two champion Kimona Smith, along with Dwight Webley (class one), Jameal Forbes (class two), and Tonique Sobah (class four) ensured Morant Bay High wrapped up the title ahead of Oberlin High, 443, Glengoffe High, 368.5, St Thomas Technical, 231, and St Mary High, 212.5 to round off the top five.
Morant Bay won the boys and girls section respectively with 323.5 and 337 points, having won eight of the 11 relays.
Winning coach Rohan Bryan was pleased with Morant Bay's performance: "We feel great as we have worked hard throughout the season and reaped the rewards. The performances were good, some athletes had their personal bests and stuck to the task.
"We expect to improve our performance at the Boys and Girls Championship this year," he added.
The meet's outstanding athlete, Andre Drummond, was one of three triple winners. In class one, Drummond lowered his 800m meet record to 1:56.16, and also won the 1,500 metres (4:06.9) and the 5,000 metres (16:21.30). He was on top of the world.
"I feel very great and I am very glad. I worked hard for it. I did not get any push and I ran well and I am looking for the gold at the Boys Champs and I want to make the team for the Carifta and CAC games," Drummond added.
St Thomas Technical's Carrie Russell and Happy Grove High's Akino Ming, both in class three, were the other triple winners.
Russell won the 100m (12.23sec), 200m (25.71sec), and the discus (24.06m), and Ming captured the 100m (11.86sec), 200m (24.28sec) and the 400m (52.99sec).
Apart from Drummond, other meet records fell in the girls javelin open by St Thomas Technical's Nickesha Small, 32.16m, and the class four hurdles by Buff Bay High's Moyaka Forrester, 12.83 seconds.
