Umpires' convention for Barbados next week

The West Indies Cricket Umpires' Association (WICUA) will be holding its 22nd Biennial Convention at the Caribee Hotel in Barbados from June 20-24.

The convention will bring together umpires from across the region including the USA, Canada, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. The convention will start with a Church Service at the St Matthais Anglican Church on Sunday.

The opening ceremony will take place next Monday at the central bank of Barbados, Frank Collymore Hall, starting at 9:00 am.

An address will be given by WICB president Teddy Griffith. The convention will then proceed to have its General Council Meeting, several discussion papers, a special presentation by Steve Bucknor, and elections of officers for the next council. The convention ends next Friday night with the president's ball.

Jamaica will be represented at the convention by a contingent of 20 umpires, including president Norman Malcolm, also in the capacity as assistant secretary/treasurer of WICUA; Vivian Johnson, secretary WICUA; Douglas Sanghue; Steve Bucknor, as well as two delegates and observers. The contingent leaves on Saturday, while secretary Johnson leaves on Friday.
