KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) is backing Trinidadian media personality Ken Gordon to be the new president of the West Indies Cricket Board, the association said yesterday.
Jackie Hendriks, president of the association said Gordon would be an appropriate choice to replace Barbadian Teddy Griffith, who announced in June that he would not seek another term.
"We think Mr Gordon is an excellent gentleman, a very eminent person, one who could take on the job leading up to the World Cup," Hendriks said.
The Leeward Islands Cricket Association also is backing Gordon.
The JCA had initially supported Pat Rousseau, the Jamaican lawyer who was president of the WICB from 1996 to 2001. But Rousseau, along with Barbadian Tony Marshall withdrew from the race in June.
Guyana's Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies captain, has also expressed interest in heading the WICB. The new president will be selected at the WICB's annual general meeting August 7 in St Maarten.
The West Indies, winner of the World Cup in 1975 and 1979, will host the tournament for the first time in 2007.
