Quarter-milers Sonita Sutherland and Jason Edwards added two more medals to Jamaica's tally on the second and penultimate day of the 13th Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor, Canada, last night.

Sutherland clocked 52.68 seconds in the 400-metre final, won by USA's Natasha Hastings in 52.15. Canada's Carlene Muir (52.38) was second.
It was Sutherland's second Pan Am bronze medal in the event. The Holmwood schoolgirl secured her first back in 2003 in Barbados. Edwards, meanwhile, broke Jamaica's six-year drought in the men's 400m, clocking 47.31 to finish behind Americans Justin Oliver (46.73) and Nathaniel Anderson (46.91). Another Jamaican, Leford Green, was fourth in 47.38.
The only other Jamaican male to have won a Pan Am medal in the event was Sanjay Ayre, who won in 1999 in Tampa, Florida. At press time last night Jamaica were second in the medal standing with one gold, two silver and three bronze for a total of six.
USA led with 14 medals - seven gold, six silver and one bronze - with Canada third, also with six medals - one gold, one silver, four bronze.

Meanwhile, Jamaicans Rascive Grant and Jesse Saunders failed to advance to the 100m final scheduled for last night. Grant clocked 10.70 seconds for third in the semi-final, while Saunders was sixth in his race. American James Samuels won the final by equalling the meet record of 10.20.
Latoya Heath finished eighth in the long jump final won by Bermuda's Arantxa King in 6.21m. Heath leapt 5.78m. In the semi-finals of the men's 400m hurdles, both Jamaicans finished out of the frame.
Norbert Miller was fifth in the first semi-final in 55.09 seconds, and Tywayne Buchanan sixth in 54.57. On Friday, Jermaine Jackson captured the silver medal in the long jump won by USA's Robert Rands on a night marked by strong negative wind.
Rands leapt 7.60 metres and Jackson 7.59m, with Canadian Seyi Smith third with 7.27m. Tarik Edwards (6.78m) was 11th. Schillonie Calvert picked up a silver in the 100 metres in 11.80 against a -1.8 m/s wind. American Cleo Tyson won in 11.52, while Colombia's Darlenys Obregon was third in 11.82. Rose-Marie Whyte was seventh in 12.06.
Markino Buckley was fourth in the 110m hurdles final, convincingly won by Cuba's Dayron Robles Planes in a meet record 13.46 secs (-1.6 m/s). Americans Tyrone Akins (14.00) and Dominic Berger (14.01) got the other medals.
Among the Jamaicans in action on today's final day are Anneisha McLaughlin and Latoya King in the 200m semi-finals, and Norbert Miller and Tywayne Buchanan in the 400m hurdles final.
