Hinds to lead past, present Windies cricketers in charity match
CMC
Monday, August 08, 2005

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) - West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds will lead an all-star team comprising past and present West Indies cricketers in a charity football match against members of Trinidad and Tobago's 1989 Strike Force squad on August 13.

Hinds, who opted out of the current West Indies tour to Sri Lanka because of the contracts dispute between the West Indies Cricket Board and the players' union, will be joined by legendary pacers Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose in the match scheduled for the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Dashing opener Chris Gayle, along with countryman Marlon Samuels and Carlton Baugh Jr, will all line up in the team.
Batsman Devon Smith, all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and fast bowler Fidel Edwards are all slated to play.

Former Trinidad and Tobago international Clayton Morris, Leonson Lewis, Marvin Faustin, Dexter Lee and Dexter Cyrus are expected to be part of the T&T strike squad.

Proceeds of the game will go towards the West Indies Players Association's relief fund as the association seeks to aid Grenada and Jamaica, both of whom were affected by Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis and Emily.
