Observer Reporter
Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Portmore United senior football team departed Kingston for Houston, Texas, on Sunday to continue preparation for the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup tie against Club America of Mexico.

The game will be played at the Minute Maid Stadium, Houston, tomorrow at 9:30 pm (local time). Portmore will stage four training sessions prior to the game, and coach Paul Young is aware of the challenges ahead.

"We are prepared for a difficult game against the Mexican champions. We are aware of Club America's very impressive traditions, and the fact that this is the richest club in this part of the hemisphere. This is like David vs Goliath. Our players are prepared as best as they can, based on our resources, and will be playing for personal and national pride and ambitions. Nothing less than a total team effort will do, and that's our attitude for the game."

The Portmore United team is made up of a mixture of experience and youth, with players such as Grenadian International Anthony Modeste (captain), former national players Christopher Dawes and Onandi Lowe, and current Reggae Boyz Shawn Sawyers (goalkeeper), Tyrone Sawyers (defender), Omar Daley, Jason Morrison (midfielders), Kevin Deerr (striker), and Under-21 players Steven Morrissey and Carlington Smith (strikers), Rafei Wolfe and Rudolph Austin (midfielders), Adrian Reid (defender), and Jacomeno Barrett (goalkeeper).
