US Under-17s sweep two-match series against Jamaicans
CMC
Tuesday, May 16, 2006

TAMPA, Florida (CMC) - The USA's National Under-17 team got second half goals from Ellie McLoughlin and Brek Shea and edged Jamaica's National Under-16s 2-1 in the second match of their two-game series at the IMG Academies this past weekend.

Shea got the winning goal 12 minutes from the end for the home side to complete a shut-out in the two-match series on Friday afternoon.

Kanneil Hyde gave the Jamaican youth side the lead on 20 minutes when he shot past USA goalkeeper Chris Miller, but the Americans rallied with a pair of goals after the break.

McLoughlin, who had scored both goals in their 2-0 win in the opening match on Wednesday, evened the game three minutes into the second half.

From a long throw-in, Tommy Meyer flicked the ball into the six-yard box where McLoughlin pounced and shot past Andre Blake in the Jamaican goal.

Shea scored the game-winner in the 78th minute, hitting a superb one-time shot.

Kirk Urso played in a cross from the right and Shea slammed in a left-footed strike from 12 yards out.

The series is a warm-up for Jamaica ahead of their participation in this summer's Caribbean Football Union Under-16 Tournament, for which they are defending champions.
