Heavy rains wreak havoc in western Jamaica
Paul Reid
Tuesday, June 06, 2006

MONTEGO BAY - Heavy rains, which pelted western Jamaica over the weekend, forced the postponement of several sporting events. The rains, which started on Friday and lasted up to yesterday afternoon, has caused a number of events to be rescheduled, some for today and some for later in the week.

The organisers of the VMBS St James Football Association's Under-12 football league will be hoping the rains stay away today as they make another attempt to play the semi-finals at the UDC Field, starting at 10:00 am.

The semi-finals were scheduled for yesterday, with Catherine Hall Primary taking on newcomers Cambridge Primary in the first game, and Flankers Primary and Junior High up against Corinaldi Avenue Primary in the second game.

The JPSCo/ St James Netball Association's Intermediate League was also affected as a double header set for the Montego Bay Boys and Girls Club on Sunday had to be called off and will be rescheduled for a later date.

One game is scheduled for today, Pacers B taking on Tornado at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 6:00 pm, weather permitting.

The wet conditions also forced the postponement of the final six regular season games in the Lucozade Sport Western Basketball Association's Men's Division One league, set to be played at the Cricket Club.

The postponement of the games will see the organisers pushing back the start of the semi-finals that were scheduled to get underway this weekend.
No date has been set for the games to be played.
